My Own Dam pictures
Not to be outdone I thought I would post my OWN dam pictures. Here are some pictures of the NOW Famous Milton Three-Ponds Dam. This dam is almost a stone's throw from my driveway.
Make sure you click the "continued" link below. I had to put the pictures on a different page because they were breaking my blog somehow. (If any of you HTML gurus want to explain why, please do). Also, if the videos are not working it is because
youtube is down.
Note in the video below that the picnic table is no longer there

The small river flowing from my yard has dug a pretty deep ditch in my neighbor's driveway....
..... and deposited much of it on the street below
Here is a video of the Dam.
Here is a video of the small river running through my normally-dry front yard.

hey - did you watch channel 9 tonight? we were on there for about 2 1/2 seconds.
We went down to the dam Sunday morning, and it was amazing. We tried to go down yesterday morning, but the National Guard wouldn't let us through. The other end of our street was evacuated Sunday, and the power has been shut off down there, but we have been able to stay. Our dock is approx. 6 feet under water at the moment. We walked over to Everett's Cove Marina and it is a disaster. We have miscellaneous docks and "stuff" floating by. Many homes at the end of our street have water running right through them :( We are very fortunate that our house sits up away from the water.
Big A! You have waterfront property!
justhavinfun - I was wondering how you guys were doing. From the pictures on your blog it looked like you lived right on the lake. Glad to hear you guys are ok.
I tried to get to your end of town yesterday to go to the post office, but I couldn't do it. 125 is closed, and the back way through Teneriffe Mtn. Road is closed too. The public works guy told me that the only way to get there at this point is to go UP to Milton Mills on 16 and then come down 125. ugh. My mail can wait a few days. Really wish I would have gone to the dump on Saturday, though.
Rob - you know, several people have suggested I block off that drain permanently so I can have a little brook running through my front yard. Not sure the town would approve though.
If I were better at posting pictures, I would post some from this end of town. Mark had to put on his wet suit and venture out to tie off our dock Sunday morning. We have some fun pictures of that :) So far, things are holding. Our neighbor lost his dock :( We have our lake steps and our slide up here on the lawn. They would have floated away if we hadn't brought them up. The Milton Police went by in a boat a little while ago. They went over and talked to the National Guard/Police on the bridge, and then headed back toward Townhouse Pond.
in the video when you are showing the actual dam to the far left, does water normally come down over that part?
The area to the left is a spillway which is normally the ONLY place that water comes through. Ordinarily, the rest of the dam is totally visible with maybe a trickle coming over it - except during the spring.
If you look at the video, you can see a little "wave" right as the video opens, and then again at about 11 seconds. That is where there is a secondary wall that is usually visibile. It's maybe 3 or 4 feet high on the sides and a little lower in the middle. Ordinarily between this wall and the base of the main dam it forms a pretty tranquil pool that people go fishing in.
Also, make sure you turn on the audio - because the sound is really the most amazing part.
School is open today!! (Wednesday)Hallelujah! The children will be going until June 22nd as it is. We were afraid they'd still be going on the 4th of July if the rain didn't stop. Looks like things are clearing up down at your end of town. The water has really gone down here too. We can even see part of our dock. It seems a little strange to still see fish swimming on the lawn though.
hey i just noticed that
1. its been a freakin' long time since you posted anything. you're coming down with friends cafe-itis.
2. Josh named his blog Josh's World and yours is Big A's World. I should check Heathers. Is it Heather's World?
"friends cafe-itis" if the definition of that is when we're all bored with our own blogs and delete them and only read the newest peoples blogs.....then yep, most of us have it. But you guys are entertaining, keep it up!
Maybe he started another blog and has invited only the people he likes and we are not on the list.
that sounds like a good definition, although i would have been a little meaner.
i think you are right rob
