Smart Car
I have seen this car on the highway several times recently. Every time I say to myself - why is that guy driving a golfcart on the highway? Turns out it is not a golf cart at all - it is a so-called "Smart Car". I'm not sure what makes it so smart - certainly not the driver who is taking it out on the highway.

The good news is that if you are in an accident it is very unlikely that you will be confined to a wheelchair. The bad news is you will likely be confined to a coffin instead.
thats nuts. i'd like to see crash statistics on that.
There are actually some cool videos of crash tests, and the passenger compartment holds up pretty well. But the problem is in a high-speed collision the car simply decelerates too quickly. say in a regular car you have 3 feet of crumple zone, but in this car you have about 1. That means the forces that your body are subjected to are 3 times greater. you could have an indestructable passenger compartment, but your body simply could not handle those kinds of forces.
